Senior Fire Engineer
Various Locations
Permanent
£40K - £55K (DOE)
Job Purpose
To provide advice to clients and employees on all matters relating to fire safety design and management to agreed targets of quality, safety, cost and time.
Principal Accountabilities
To facilitate the smooth operation of our client for which the Senior Fire Engineer has a responsibility including:
* Provide analysis and of workload within the company and allocate as appropriate
* To work within the allocated budget mutually agreed between Senior Fire Engineer/Principal Fire Engineer
* Coordinate operational control and customer relation management of the customer base
* Be conversant with all relevant legislation and recommend/ensure procedures are updated accordingly
* To give support, supervision, training and guidance to staff within their remit of control
* Be part of the decision making team during interviews for new staff
* To complete 6-monthly/annual appraisals for staff within their remit of control
* To assist and recommend staff CPD requirements are maintained
* Ensure the application of all Company policies, i.e. Equal Opportunity, Grievance and report any deviations to the Human Resource Management
* Monitor levels of absenteeism, ensuring weekly time sheets and credit card expenses are completed in a timely manner and promote active management to ensure appropriate cover is maintained within the office/s
* Communicate overall Company ethos and business objectives/plans to staff within remit
* Attend and make positive contribution to manager's/departmental meetings
* In association with the Directors assist with the development and implementation of policy procedures.
General Project Management Duties
* Review plans for compliance with all Statutory Fire Safety Requirements
* Produce reports detailing necessary changes to proposals
* Provide expert advice to building design teams at multi disciplinary meetings
* Liaise with Fire Authorities and Building Control Bodies
* Carry out physical inspections of premises to advise on all matters relating to statutory compliance
* Guide organisations through the necessary statutory requirements to ensure compliance
* To comply with those functions outlined in the Quality Manual as appropriate
* Ensure records and filing are maintained to ensure the company's Quality Procedures, service levels and contractual requirements are being met
* To communicate effectively (verbally, writing, electronically) to meet the job purpose
* Maintain a positive team environment to promote the overall interests of the company without regard to sectional or divisional boundaries
* To ensure that when entering site all Health & Safety regulations are strictly complied with and that all protective/safety equipment is worn
* To undertake other duties, within the competence of the post holder, as may be reasonably required from time to time
Good working knowledge and understanding of
* BS5839 - Fire detection and alarm systems
* BS5588 - Fire precautions in the design, construction and use of buildings
* Regulation Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
* Fire Precautions (Sub-surface Railway Stations) Regulations 1989
* Approved Document B of the Building Regulations
