Job Title: Supply Chain Controller

Status: Permanent, Full-Time

Working hours: Monday-Friday 8.30am-17.00pm

Location: Cambridge Biomedical Campus

The Supply Chain Controller is the 'air traffic controller' of our group. Your ability to accurately organise and communicate the details of order placement and fulfilment are essential to our operation. In addition, your communications about projected availability will have a direct impact upon customers. If you do your job well, we will minimize the number of customers 'circling the airport' waiting for information about the availability of our products.

The job is fast paced, and you'll be supported with a group of positive team members who will provide help where needed to delight our customers.

The position will be responsible for ordering stock from suppliers and tracking the delivery to Abcam. You will also process all order confirmations, track down overdue items and assist in effectively resolving any issues that may arise.

Key Responsibilities:

Supply Planning:

  • Using existing planning tools and processes; to generate, maintain and communicate supply plans for one or more product value chains or product groups, working alongside the Supply Chain Planner and/or independently as required
  • Raise, place and manage Purchase Orders across the Abcam network of internal manufacturing facilities and external supply chain
  • Provide product level status updates to other Abcam departments as required, particularly in support of Customer Service and Commercial colleagues
  • Support Sales & Operations Planning processes through provision of supply planning, load and capacity data across agreed horizons
  • Support daily/ weekly and monthly standard diary reviews as appropriate
  • Validate and quality assure planning tool output to maximise product service levels and customer satisfaction
  • Provide reports and other management information as required

Administration/ progress management:


  • Raise, place and management Purchase Orders to move stock between manufacturing and finished good
  • Manage the transfer of finished goods and bulk stock across the Abcam network of manufacturing and fulfilment sites
  • Process order confirmations from suppliers
  • Expedite product as required, with focus on minimising supply chain overdues
  • Resolve problems and issues as required

Projects and continuous improvement:


  • Support supply chain/ cross-business improvement projects and initiatives as required
About you:
  • You will have prior experience in a customer-service (internal or external) position.
  • Previous experience in Supply Chain is not essential, however, you must have an interest in the field and a desire to continuously improve
  • You will have excellence interpersonal and communication, time management and organisational skills
  • You will have a keen eye for detail and the ability to solve problems independently
  • You will have experience of working with MS Office, particularly Excel to a good standard. Some experience of working in ERP would be advantageous
