Our client is a leading Investment Platform for private investors, providing access to a range of investment options, a choice of hundreds of Funds from different regions and sectors, free use of customised Fund management tools, 24/7 portfolio valuations, easy and economical Fund transfers and access to the latest Fund research.

With offices in Hertfordshire, this business provides a focused yet flexible "listening" work environment; with around 20 staff on sight, day to day.

In line with growth, the MD is currently seeking a Compliance Officer to take over this area of responsibility.

This opportunity would suit experienced compliance professionals with good advisory D2C retail investment experience (including robo-advice), and the ability to understand how specific regulations can be applied in different advisory spaces, as well as being able to directly interact with the regulator.

Working with the MD, Compliance Manager and the Exec, the medium-long term expectations are for this role to assume CF10/11 responsibility - although this can be brought forward for someone with suitable ability and experience.

The main areas of responsibility will include:

Involvement with the development of new business proposition (from day 1).

Job Description

To support the business to ensure that the rules and principles set by the FCA and other regulatory bodies are being observed within the company. The successful applicant will be responsible for determining how such rules and principles are to be met.

They will also have responsibility for the wider Business Assurance Function, which acts as an independent and objective body that reviews and evaluates Compliance issues within the Business. This currently includes Risk Management, Disaster Recovery, Data security, Internal Audit and adherence to industry standards, whilst maintaining Compliance with all regulatory legislative bodies.

Implement all necessary actions to ensure achievement of the objectives of an effective compliance program and manage the Compliance and Risk Team on a day to day basis.

Define the Compliance Strategy in line with FCA requirements and other regulatory bodies, and ensure that this strategy is well defined, fit for purpose, implemented and driven through the business effectively.

Monitor and report the results of the compliance efforts of the company and provide guidance for the Board and senior management team on matters relating to compliance.

Maintain oversight of a robust and effective Risk management and Compliance Program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct, with oversight of the day-to-day operation of the Program.

Ensure the department acts as an independent review and evaluation body, to ensure that compliance issues and concerns within the company are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.

Monitor, and as necessary, co-ordinate compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.

Work with the Managers to identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.Ensure proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorised enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required.

Package information

Annual discretionary bonus depending on experience and role paid in November each year

Pension - 3% employer contribution rising to 5% in April 2019

Death in Service - 4 x basic salary

Critical Illness - 2 x basic salary

Income Protection - 75% basic salary

Person / Experience Required

10-15 years experience in Retail Investments.

5+ years' Compliance experience, with an understanding of the impact of regulations on differing investment advisory environments.

Strong knowledge of FCA Rules and Guidance and the ability to apply these to practical industry scenarios with an appreciation of commercial implications

Robo-advice

Previous experience in managing a Compliance team / Business Assurance Team

Training

High level of attention to detail

Able to challenge and influence across the whole business

Ability to make commercially sound decisions identifying associated risks to the business

Able to initiate or drive through change

Flexible & Resilient

Can be located at any of the business offices but with travel to all sites

Qualifications
