Audit Compliance Officer - RB5

Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 (dependent upon experience)

Location: Manchester

What you'll do:

Reporting into the Profit Protection Manager, you'll provide independent assurance that the retail operations risk management, governance, store standards and internal control processes are operating effectively. You'll highlight to the Operational team's areas of concern, embed the compliance framework and culture in order to safe guard colleagues, company assets, regulatory requirements and protect margin. Using root cause analysis, you'll identify where patterns of behaviour across stores indicate opportunities for business improvements through to conducting store investigations as directed by the Profit Protection Manage to agreed standards.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Completion of store compliance assessments against relevant business, regulatory and ethical policies/procedures in line with the Store Assessment Plan.
  • Stakeholder engagement with the RDM's and Store Managers out in the Field and Central. Providing positive, constructive, and actionable feedback from the assessments.
  • Responsibility to follow up with RDM's and Store Managers to ensure that assessment actions are fully implemented protecting circa £1m EBITDA across the business.
  • Review and document the compliance assessment, highlighting themes and appropriate next steps to drive a change in behaviours to mitigate risks.
  • Ensuring the quality of assessment documents and correspondence are maintained for each audit to a high standard, including the submission of assessment reports for review with the Field Management Team
  • Coaching the Operational teams when appropriate, in developing their understanding of business standards, processes and procedures to ensure compliance percentage is 95% or more for the business.
  • The ability to challenge the RDM's on continual areas of failure and identifying when the consequence framework is required
  • Raising awareness of the importance of controls and embedding controls capability and ownership within the business
  • Conduct investigations with fully supported evidenced based documentation in line with business standards
  • Identification of processes that can be developed as part of the store transformation and business strategy.
  • Identification of areas of risk within the business that feeds in to the Risk Register, maintaining a high level of risk and control culture with Stores & RDM's i.e. encouraging the use of whistleblowing
  • Represent the function at relevant meetings, including Divisional Meetings and on Operational projects, Simpler where requested.
  • Development of proactive and reactive security needs across all stores and working closely with the facilities team to ensure minimum standards are required, met and/or maintained.

Key knowledge and skills required for the role:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy checking, with the ability to create and follow complex processes
  • Experience in a role undertaking or supporting incident investigations
  • Knowledge of current health and safety legislation, current investigatory and regulatory legislation, e.g. PACE and Data Protection and have experience in a Compliance/Audit/Loss Prevention function
  • Stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages including PowerPoint, Excel & Word
